The Peninsula Mooncake Box

Client :

The Peninsula Bangkok Hotel

Descriptions :

Design Concept : The Celestial Lantern The overarching concept of this packaging is the "Celestial Lantern," transforming a traditional mooncake box into a functional piece of art that evokes the warmth and community of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Architectural Symbolism : The design moves away from the standard flat box, opting for a three-dimensional, elevated structure that mimics a traditional Chinese lantern or a decorative pavilion. The box is suspended on a minimalist stand, giving it a sense of "floating," much like the moon in the night sky.

The "P" Constellation : At the heart of the front panel is the iconic Peninsula "P" logo, encased in an octagonal frame. It is surrounded by golden star constellations, bridging the gap between the hotel’s prestigious brand identity and the celestial theme of the festival.

Intricate Lattice Work (Window Grilles) : The side panels feature complex die-cut lattice patterns reminiscent of traditional Chinese window frames (moucharaby). This allows light and shadow to play across the surface, reinforcing the lantern aesthetic and adding a layer of tactile luxury.

Lunar Imagery : On the side panel, a vivid, glowing full moon is depicted. This serves as a direct nod to the festival's origin, symbolizing family reunion, harmony, and prosperity.

Royal Color Palette : The choice of imperial red and shimmering gold is deeply rooted in Chinese culture. Red represents good fortune and joy, while the gold accents signify wealth and the premium quality of the handcrafted mooncakes within.
